MA's Kitchen
MA’s Kitchen began in 1985 in rural Dambulla, where a young couple ran a backpackers’ lodge. Their guests loved Sri Lankan curries but kept saying they could not find good, fresh spices to cook them at home. That became the business: MA’s Tropical Food Processing (Pvt) Ltd, which sent its first export shipment from the Dambulla factory a year later and has been packing Sri Lankan flavours for kitchens abroad ever since. In 2003 it became the first company in Sri Lanka to gain SQF food safety certification; it added a certified organic range in 2004 and FLOCERT Fair Trade certification in 2014.
The heart of the range is ready-made Sri Lankan curry paste, ground with fresh spices so that a weeknight curry needs only meat, fish or vegetables and coconut milk: Sri Lankan chicken, Colombo chicken, black pork, beef, spicy seafood, kalupol (dark roasted spices and coconut), fish ambul thiyal, devilled and yellow rice. Pastes from further afield include Thai green curry, rendang, nasi goreng and biriyani. For cooking from scratch there are dry spices such as roasted curry powder, chilli powder, garam masala, Ceylon cinnamon sticks and whole cardamom, and seasoning cubes for sambol, kiri hodi and rasam.
In 1995 MA’s took over Happy Home, whose chutneys and pickles complete a rice and curry spread: Malay pickle, Sinhala pickle, mango chutney and date and lime chutney. The Dad’s Garden label covers table and cooking sauces such as Thai sweet chilli, mango BBQ, teriyaki, katsu and Worcestershire, next to MA’s own wok sauces (hot garlic, soy ginger, black pepper), Pasta Roma pasta sauces and classic coconut milk.
MA’s Kitchen already supplies shops and food businesses in the UK, USA, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Canada and New Zealand. We ship these packs worldwide from Sri Lanka, so you can cook a proper Sri Lankan curry wherever you live.
