This Malwatte jar holds turmeric powder, ground from the dried root of the turmeric plant. It is bright orange yellow, earthy in flavour, and colours almost every Sri Lankan curry and yellow rice.
Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC grows, processes and packs much of its produce on its own plantations and in its own factories, and also buys from smallholder farmers. It has grown spices since the early 2010s and runs a spice processing factory.
