Dried ginger root milled to a fine powder, packed by Malwatte in a 35g glass shaker bottle. Ground ginger has a warm, peppery heat that is a little sweeter and less sharp than fresh root.
Ginger is used across Sri Lankan cooking, from curries and chutneys to the spiced coffee and tea served in many homes, and ground ginger is a standard baking spice in Europe.
In the pack
- 35g ginger powder
- Glass shaker jar with a black screw cap
In the kitchen
Stir it into curries, marinades and stir-fry sauces, add a pinch to black tea or coffee, or use it in gingerbread, biscuits, cakes and fruit crumbles. About a quarter of a teaspoon of powder replaces a thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger in most recipes.
Storage
Keep the cap tightly closed and store the jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
