Nutmeg is the dried seed kernel of the fruit of Myristica fragrans, an evergreen tropical tree that is the only one in the world to give two distinct spices: nutmeg from the kernel, and mace from the lacy covering around it. Lakpura Organic Nutmeg Without Shell is supplied as the whole kernel, with the hard outer shell already removed, so the seed is ready to grate or grind. It is grown by organic growers without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides, then dried, shelled and packed in small batches in Sri Lanka. Nutmeg is valued above all for its sweet, warm aroma.
100% organic certified by USDA Organic and Control Union. In plain terms, this means the way the crop is grown and the way it is handled after harvest have both been inspected and certified by independent bodies, rather than simply described as organic by us. No synthetic fertilisers or pesticides are used in the field, and nothing artificial is added during processing.

Nutmeg is used mainly in the kitchen, where it flavours curries and other savoury dishes, confectionery and baked goods, and is a common addition to beverages and drinks. A whole kernel keeps its aroma far longer than pre-ground powder, so grate only what you need directly into the pan, the batter or the cup. Nutmeg oleoresin, made from the same seed, is used commercially in meat products, soups and sauces, baked foods, confectionery and puddings, and in seasonings for meat and vegetables, while nutmeg oil is used in cosmetics and toiletries. Like the island's other warm spices, nutmeg has long been valued in Sri Lankan kitchens and traditional households.
Lakpura works with organic growers across Sri Lanka to bring the island's spices to the table in the form they were always meant to keep.
