Lakpura Organic Cloves Bud are the dried flower buds of an evergreen tree that reaches 10 to 12 metres in height. The tree begins to flower after about seven years and can keep producing buds for more than 80 years, so a single planting supports growers across generations. Buds are left on the tree until they are fully developed and carry a pronounced pink flush, then plucked by hand and dried in the sun. Nothing else is added: what you receive is whole clove, Syzygium aromaticum, and nothing more.
Certified organic. The buds come from growers who work without synthetic fertilisers or pesticides, and the crop is processed and packed in small batches in Sri Lanka. In plain terms, that means the cloves in the pack were grown under an organic system and reach your kitchen free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

Cloves are used mainly as dried whole buds, dropped into rice, stocks, pickles and slow-cooked meat and vegetable dishes, where they release their scent gradually into the pot. Ground clove is a standard component of curry mixtures and works in small quantities alongside other warm spices in baking and preserves; a little goes a long way, so measure with care. Clove buds, leaves and stalks are also the source of clove essential oil, a flavouring agent in food and an ingredient used in perfumery. To keep the aroma at its fullest, grind the buds only as you need them and store the rest in a closed jar away from heat and light. Cloves have long been valued in Sri Lankan kitchens and traditional households.
