This Malwatte jar holds Uva black pepper powder, ground from dried black peppercorns to a fine grey brown powder. It is ready to use at the table or in the pot, with the sharp heat that black pepper brings to Sri Lankan food.
Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC has grown pepper since 2011 and processes it in its own spice factory. The company says the International Pepper Community named it Sri Lanka's largest pepper grower in 2016.
