Lakpura® Single Region Dimbula Black Tea comes from Dimbula, the high-grown tea country on the western slopes of Sri Lanka's central mountains. It is the classic, even-tempered Ceylon cup: bright, clean and easy to drink at any hour of the day.
Dimbula's estates climb the misty hills west of the central ridge, and for much of the year the region is cool and damp. From around May to September the southwest monsoon drives in from the Indian Ocean and drenches the western-facing slopes. The region's quality season comes after it, from around the turn of the year into March, when the air turns crisp and dry by day and the nights are cold and windy. The teas made in those weeks are the ones Dimbula is known for.
Because the district is a patchwork of valleys, its teas run from full-bodied to light and delicate depending on where they are grown. Taken together, the Sri Lanka Tea Board sums up the region's cup as refreshingly mellow: a clear, golden-orange liquor, a brisk but rounded taste and a fresh, clean finish.
The family comes in two formats. The 100g pack holds BOP grade loose leaf - Broken Orange Pekoe, small pieces of broken leaf that brew to a brisk, well-coloured cup in the pot. The 50g box holds 25 tea bags of BOPF grade, Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings, a finer particle that infuses quickly and suits a single mug.
Brew either with freshly boiled water and let it steep to the strength you like. Dimbula is lovely black and takes milk without losing its character. Keep the pack closed and away from light, moisture and strong smells.
