Kandy Special is a single-region black tea from Akbar, sold as loose leaf in a 200g pack. It comes from the Kandy region in Sri Lanka's central hills, the district where Ceylon tea growing first began.
Kandy teas are mid-grown, at roughly 2,000 to 4,000 feet. That middle elevation gives a cup with more strength than the high-grown teas and more brightness than the low-grown ones: brisk, robust and smooth, with a deep amber colour and a lively finish. It is a good daily tea, plain or with milk.
In the pack
- 200g loose leaf black tea
- Mid-grown Ceylon tea from the Kandy region
How to brew
- One level teaspoon per cup
- Freshly boiled water at 100°C
- Steep for 3-5 minutes depending on how strong you like it, then strain
Serving ideas
Taste it plain first to get its full character, then try it with a splash of warm milk for a classic Ceylon cup. It also brews well at double strength for iced tea.
Blended and packed in Sri Lanka by Akbar Brothers, Colombo, the country's largest exporter of Ceylon tea.
