This Malwatte jar holds whole green cardamom pods, the papery pale green husks with small dark seeds inside. Keeping the pods whole means the seeds stay closed until you crack them, so the aroma is held in until you cook.
Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC has grown cardamom since 2012, alongside the pepper and cinnamon on its estates, and processes its spices in its own factory.

In the kitchen
- Crush two or three pods lightly and simmer them in Sri Lankan milk tea.
- Add whole pods to biryani, pilau rice and meat curries.
- Grind the seeds for watalappan, payasam, cakes and other sweets.
Storage
Keep the cap tightly closed and store the jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The range label asks you to use the contents within 60 days of opening.
