Cracked black pepper from Malwatte, packed in a flat printed sachet that holds 40g. The label reads Uva Black Peppercorns Cracked: whole black peppercorns broken into coarse pieces, so the pepper is ready to use without a grinder and gives more bite than fine ground pepper.
Malwatte has grown pepper since 2011, and the maker says the International Pepper Community named it the largest pepper grower in Sri Lanka in 2016. Uva is a province in the hills of Sri Lanka.
In the pack
- 40g of cracked black peppercorns
- Flat printed sachet with a grey label
The grey label prints the name in English, Sinhala and Tamil, the words "All Natural", the net weight and a reminder to use the contents within 60 days of opening.
In the kitchen
- Press onto steaks, chicken or fish before searing
- Simmer in cream or stock for a pepper sauce
- Scatter over salads, eggs and roast vegetables
- Add to Sri Lankan pepper curries and devilled dishes
Storage
Keep the sachet tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The label asks you to use the contents within 60 days of opening; tipping them into an airtight jar after opening helps.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
