Whole black and white peppercorns from Malwatte, packed in a flat printed sachet that holds 50g. Black pepper is the dried whole berry, while white pepper has the outer skin removed; mixed, they give a fuller pepper flavour from one grinder.
Malwatte has grown pepper since 2011, and the maker says the International Pepper Community named it the largest pepper grower in Sri Lanka in 2016. Uva is a province in the hills of Sri Lanka.
In the pack
- 50g of mixed whole black and white peppercorns
- Flat printed sachet with a grey and brown label
The grey label prints the name in English, Sinhala and Tamil, the words "All Natural", the net weight and a reminder to use the contents within 60 days of opening.
In the kitchen
- Fill a pepper grinder for the table
- Grind over steaks, eggs, salads and pasta
- Add whole to stocks, pickles and slow cooked curries
- Crush coarsely for a pepper crust
Storage
Keep the sachet tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The label asks you to use the contents within 60 days of opening; tipping them into an airtight jar after opening helps.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
