Mustard powder from Malwatte, packed in a flat printed sachet that holds 30g. Mustard seed is ground to a fine yellow powder; mixed with a little cold water and left for ten minutes, it turns into a sharp, hot table mustard.
The powder also adds a gentle bite to sauces and pickles without the texture of whole seeds. Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC has exported since 1992 and processes and packs its spices in its own factories, which hold ISO 22000 certification.
In the pack
- 30g of mustard powder
- Flat printed sachet with a grey and gold label
The grey label prints the name in English, Sinhala and Tamil, the words "All Natural", the net weight and a reminder to use the contents within 60 days of opening.
In the kitchen
- Mix with cold water to make fresh mustard
- Whisk into salad dressings and mayonnaise
- Add to cheese sauces, marinades and glazes
- Use in Sri Lankan pickles such as achcharu
Storage
Keep the sachet tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The label asks you to use the contents within 60 days of opening; tipping them into an airtight jar after opening helps.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
