Ground cardamom from Malwatte, packed in a flat printed sachet that holds 40g. The pack shot shows green cardamom pods beside the pale powder, which carries the warm, sweet and slightly citrus scent the spice is known for.
Malwatte added cardamom to its own plantations in 2012 and opened its spice processing factory in 2019.
In the pack
- 40g of cardamom powder
- Flat printed sachet with a grey and olive label
The grey label prints the name in English, Sinhala and Tamil, the words "All Natural", the net weight and a reminder to use the contents within 60 days of opening.
In the kitchen
- Add a pinch to milk tea or coffee
- Flavour sweets, cakes, biscuits and rice puddings
- Use in biryani, pilau and meat curries
- A little goes a long way: start with a quarter teaspoon
Storage
Keep the sachet tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The label asks you to use the contents within 60 days of opening; tipping them into an airtight jar after opening helps.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
