Hari Kahata is the everyday black tea of Malwatte, packed in a bright green printed pack with its name in Sinhala script and a cup of red tea on the front. Kahata is plain black tea, drunk without milk, as it is served in homes and tea boutiques across Sri Lanka.
Malwatte Valley Plantations grows tea on about 4,500 hectares in the Uva region and processes it in its own factories.
In the pack
- 100g of Ceylon black tea, net weight printed on the front
- Printed foil pack
- Roughly 40 cups at one teaspoon per cup, a sensible size for a household that drinks tea every day
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup and pour on freshly boiled water. Leave it for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain. Drink it plain as kahata, the way black tea is often taken in Sri Lanka, or add milk and sugar to taste.
Storage
Once opened, fold the pack tightly or move the tea to an airtight jar, and keep it in a cool, dry place.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
