Thera Tharanaya is a Sinhala novel by Jayasena Jayakody, published by Godage International Publishers. Its title, තෙර තරණය, means 'the crossing', the passage from one shore of understanding to the other.
Jayasena Jayakody is among Sri Lanka's best-known Sinhala novelists, a writer whose work has been recognised with the State Literary Award. His novels are read widely for their picture of Sri Lankan life and their sure handling of character and story.
Written in Sinhala, the book belongs to the island's long tradition of modern fiction, the work of an author who has spent his career telling Sri Lankan stories in his own language.
At 176 pages, it is a full-length novel in the author's established style. For readers of Sinhala fiction, and for students of the language, it is a substantial and worthwhile read.
