Kandy Elephant OP from Battler is a loose leaf Ceylon black tea from the Kandy region, the old hill capital in the centre of Sri Lanka. It is packed in a tin caddy and sold in two sizes; pick one above.
OP (Orange Pekoe) is a leaf grade, not a flavour: it means long, wiry leaves rolled whole rather than cut. Kandy Elephant brews a smooth, medium-bodied cup with soft floral notes, a classic Kandy style that takes milk well but is good plain too.
In the pack
- 100 g size: 100 g of loose leaf OP black tea in a tin caddy
- 200 g size: 200 g of loose leaf OP black tea in a larger tin caddy
- Both sealed for freshness; shelf life of three years from packing, per the maker
Tasting notes
- Leaf: long, rolled whole leaf
- Liquor: bright, coppery orange
- Taste: smooth and medium-bodied, with floral notes
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup and freshly boiled water. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain.
Serving ideas
Plain or with a splash of milk at breakfast; a slice of lemon suits it in the afternoon. The empty tin makes a good canister.
Battler is a Sri Lankan brand of pure Ceylon tea from Maltras International (Pvt) Ltd of Kaduwela, near Colombo.
