About this experience
This cooking class in Bentota puts Sri Lankan cuisine in your hands. Working with a local chef at your own cooking station, you prepare dhal (the island's everyday lentil curry), coconut sambol, and chicken curry, using traditional clay pots and coconut shell spoons rather than modern pans. If there's another dish you'd rather learn, the class can be shaped around it.
The session opens with the chef introducing the spices and ingredients laid out on the table, then moves into hands-on cooking — you do the work yourself, with guidance throughout. It ends with the meal you've cooked, served family-style so you taste the results straight away. Ingredients and mineral water are included; only transport to the venue, extra drinks, and tips are not.
Private and suited to individuals or groups, the class welcomes children from age five, making it a genuine family option. Let the chef know of any dietary requirements beforehand, and wear comfortable shoes for the outdoor cooking space.
