This is Orange Pekoe from the Malwatte Single Estate Tea range: a pale gold metal tin printed with an old photograph of a thatched village hut, the Ceylon Tea lion mark and the words Ceylon Black Tea, Orange Pekoe, 100g net.
Orange Pekoe (OP) is a whole-leaf grade: long, twisted leaves rather than small broken pieces. Long-leaf grades infuse more slowly than broken ones and usually give a lighter, more open cup.
In the tin
- 100g of Orange Pekoe Ceylon black tea
- Rectangular lidded tin with a printed label
- Marked Single Estate Tea by the maker
How to brew
Use one heaped teaspoon (about 2.5 g) per cup with freshly boiled water and give the long leaf the full 5 minutes. Strain and drink plain, or with a splash of milk.
Storage
Close the lid firmly after use and keep the tin in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and strong smells.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
