Jaf Tea Ceylon Earl Grey is a single-region black tea from the Dimbulla highlands of Sri Lanka, scented with bergamot flavouring to give the cup its characteristic citrus edge. The pack contains 20 individually foil-wrapped teabags with a combined net weight of 40g, each bag holding 2g of tea. It is manufactured by Jafferjee Brothers, a Colombo family business that has been trading since 1944, and the brand is sold in more than 30 countries.
Dimbulla sits between the high plateaus of Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains in Sri Lanka's central highlands, with estates at elevations that place the tea firmly in the high-grown category. The region produces teas with a delicate, light-bodied character, and the best of the crop comes during the western quality season — the months around the turn of the year when the air is crisp by day and cold at night. Jaf Tea uses this single region exclusively for the Earl Grey blend, meaning the cup reflects the terroir of one defined place rather than a blended average of several.
The ingredients are straightforward: Rainforest Alliance Certified Ceylon black tea and bergamot flavouring. The tea carries the Ceylon Tea Symbol of Quality, which is issued by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and confirms pure Sri Lankan origin. It is also certified as a vegan production and as a non-GMO production. The outer carton is printed on 100% recyclable paperboard.
Each teabag is sealed in its own foil envelope, hermetically closed to preserve the tea's aroma until the moment it is opened. To brew, place one teabag in a cup, pour over freshly boiled water and allow it to infuse for three to five minutes, then remove the bag. The tea suits those who prefer their Earl Grey unadorned as well as those who add a slice of lemon or a splash of milk. Store the pack in a cool, dry place once opened.
