Bogawantalawa Extra Strong Black Tea (200g)

From$4.00

This 200g pouch holds Extra Strong, the deepest everyday black tea from Bogawantalawa. The company takes its name from the Bogawantalawa valley in Sri Lanka's central hills, opened to tea by Scottish planters in 1869.

The tea is made strong, full bodied and dark, for people who like a cup with weight. The pouch is labelled in Sinhala, with a red top band, a cup of tea and green tea leaves, and the maker describes its teas as climate positive. The 200g size suits a household drinking a few cups a day.

In the pack

  • 200g loose black tea
  • Extra Strong range, Sinhala-labelled pouch

In the cup

Deep reddish brown, malty and robust, with enough body for plenty of milk.

How to brew

Allow one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) per cup with freshly boiled water. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes. For a lighter cup, use less tea rather than a shorter steep.

Serving ideas

Make kahata, the plain strong black tea of Sri Lanka, drunk without milk and often with jaggery or sugar on the side. Or brew it for milk tea, or as the base for masala chai with ginger and cardamom.

Bogawantalawa is a Sri Lankan brand of pure Ceylon tea from Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd of Ragama, named after the tea valley in the central hills where its estates lie.
