Mc Currie Black Pepper Powder is ground black pepper, sold in a red vacuum-packed pouch. Black pepper is the dried berry of the pepper vine, picked when half ripe and just turning red, then dried until dark and wrinkled before grinding.
Ground pepper gives a sharp, warm bite and a woody aroma. It is one of the basic spices of the Sri Lankan kitchen, from pepper chicken and black pork curry to a simple egg hopper.

In the kitchen
Season meat, fish, eggs and vegetables, stir into soups and gravies, or add to marinades. In Sri Lankan cooking it goes into pepper curries and devilled dishes, and a pinch finishes a bowl of dhal or a plate of fried rice. Ground pepper loses its aroma faster than whole peppercorns, so close the pack after use.
Storage
Keep the pack tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Mc Currie dry products are made at the Lanka Spice factory in Makumbura, Pannipitiya, where spices are cleaned, graded, ground and packed under food technologists, and vacuum packed in red printed pouches with the air drawn out.
Mc Currie is the brand of Lanka Spice (Pvt) Ltd, which has made spices, spice blends and ready-to-eat jar products in Sri Lanka since 1984.
