A Sinhala retelling of Alice in Wonderland, issued as part of a series of widely known fairy tales adapted for young children by M. D. Gunasena & Co. of Colombo. The text throughout is Sinhala — there is no English in it — so this is a book for a Sinhala-reading household, or for a child learning to read the language.
It is a pop-up book. The pages carry paper constructions that rise as each spread is opened, and the book is bound in hard covers. The retelling is written in simple language and the illustrations are in colour. The adaptation is by Niranjan Chaminda Karunathilake.
The series as a whole takes well-loved fairy tales and presents them in this format for small children, the intention being that the book is handled and looked at as much as read. Because the mechanisms are made of paper, it suits supervised reading with very young children rather than unattended play.
