Sweet 16 is one of the Malwatte Single Estate Tea tins: a soft beige tin printed with a photograph of an estate worker beside wooden tea chests, the Ceylon Tea lion mark and the words Ceylon Black Tea, Sweet 16, 75g net.
Sweet 16 is the name the maker gives this black tea; the tin does not state a leaf grade. It is grown and made by Malwatte Valley Plantations, which has about 4,500 hectares of tea in the Uva region and runs its own factories.
In the tin
- 75g of Ceylon black tea
- Square lidded tin with the Malwatte logo on the lid
- Brewing notes printed on the side panel
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup and pour on freshly boiled water. Leave it for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain. Drink it plain as kahata, the way black tea is often taken in Sri Lanka, or add milk and sugar to taste.
Storage
Close the lid firmly after use and keep the tin in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and strong smells.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
