This is a Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) Ceylon black tea from the Elephas Maximus tin range by Battler. The range is named after the Asian elephant, and the 100 g tin carries the imprint of an elephant's face.
BOP is a broken-leaf grade: smaller pieces of leaf that infuse quickly and give a strong cup. The maker describes this tea as full-bodied with a deep colour and a malty richness.
In the pack
- 100 g of loose leaf tea in an Elephas Maximus tin caddy.
- Ingredient: pure Ceylon black tea, BOP grade.
- Keep the tea closed, cool and dry, away from strong smells. The maker gives a shelf life of three years.
Tasting notes
Strong and full, with a dark liquor and a malty depth. It stands up well to milk and sugar.
How to brew
- Use one teaspoon of leaf (about 2.5 g) per cup.
- Pour on freshly boiled water.
- Steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain.
Serving ideas
A good choice for a strong morning pot with milk, or for milk tea brewed in a pan. Because broken leaf infuses fast, check it at three minutes if you prefer it lighter.
