This is a Sinhala-language book, written and printed in Sinhala throughout. There is no English text and no parallel translation, so it will suit readers who are comfortable in Sinhala prose — Sri Lankans abroad, students of the language, or anyone building a Sinhala-language shelf outside the island.
The title points to the up-country: Udarata is the hill country around Kandy, the old Kandyan territory, and withthi carries the sense of accounts, tidings, things told. Taken together the title signals a book of writing about that region, from P. M. P. Abayasinghe.
It comes from Godage Publishers, a long-established Colombo house with a wide Sinhala list covering history, literature, religion and general non-fiction. Godage titles are usually printed for the domestic market and are not commonly stocked outside Sri Lanka, which is the main reason to order a copy from here rather than look for it locally.
Worth considering if you read Sinhala and have an interest in the hill country, or if you are collecting contemporary Sinhala non-fiction published in Colombo.
