This is a Sinhala retelling of The Emperor's New Clothes, the tale of a ruler persuaded that he is wearing a garment only the worthy can see. Hiruni Fernando's version appears under the Sinhala title Rajathumage Aluth Anduma, and belongs to a series of fairy tale books produced for young Sri Lankan children.
The text is entirely in Sinhala, in simple language pitched at children who are beginning to read on their own or who are being read to. There is no English in it, so buyers outside Sri Lanka should treat this as a book for a Sinhala-speaking household, a family keeping the language alive abroad, or a child learning to read Sinhala script with an adult alongside.
It is printed on glossy paper with colour illustrations throughout, in the format the publisher uses across this series of children's fairy tales. The story itself is the familiar one, told plainly rather than at length, with the pictures carrying a good part of the telling.
