Dilmah Vanilla Flavoured Ceylon Black Tea is a straightforward pleasure: single-origin Ceylon black tea of the BOPF grade — Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings — scented with vanilla at a proportion of six per cent. The tea itself comes entirely from Sri Lanka, grown, handpicked and packed at source. Dilmah's single-origin commitment means no leaf from outside Sri Lanka enters the blend, and the tea is packed fresh shortly after harvest rather than warehoused and shipped in bulk. Each of the twenty individually prepared tea bags holds 1.5 grams of BOPF-grade leaf, sealed to preserve the character of the tea from the estate to your cup.
On the packaging, Dilmah carries the designation 'Ethically Produced Tea'. This reflects the company's practice of retaining profits within Sri Lanka and returning a share of pre-tax earnings to growers and their communities through the MJF Foundation, which funds nutrition, education and medical facilities for the tea workforce. Dilmah Conservation, also integral to the business, works to protect Sri Lankan ecosystems and has achieved carbon-neutral tea production.
Preparation is straightforward. The bags brew well in freshly boiled water, and the vanilla note comes through cleanly whether the tea is taken straight, with a little milk, or allowed to cool and served over ice.
