Akbar Gold Leaf Tea is a 100% pure Ceylon loose-leaf black tea, graded Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe — F.B.O.P. — and packed in Sri Lanka exclusively for export. It comes in a cylindrical tin caddy with a black clip-lock lid and a gold-tone wire bail clasp, a format that keeps the leaf in good condition between uses and sits comfortably on any kitchen shelf or tea tray.
F.B.O.P. is one of the more distinguished grades in the black tea world. It is characterised by a high proportion of tips — the unblown leaf buds that form at the growing point of the plant — found only in carefully picked, elite-grade harvests. The result in the cup is a brewed liquor of deep red colour with the kind of depth and body that comes from leaf with genuine character. Akbar sources the Gold line from the low-grown regions of Sri Lanka, where the climate and soil produce the particular weight and warmth associated with this style of Ceylon black tea.
Akbar Brothers (Pvt) Ltd, headquartered in Colombo, packs the tea in Sri Lanka close to the source of leaf production. The family's involvement in tea merchant trade traces back to 1907, a heritage acknowledged on the tin itself. That long connection to the trade is reflected in the care taken at the packing stage: the leaf goes into the sealed tin without additives or blending with non-Ceylon teas — the single ingredient is Ceylon black leaf tea.
To brew, allow the leaf three to five minutes in freshly boiled water, as recommended on the label. The tin caddy format makes it straightforward to measure the leaf you want and reseal the rest. The Gold Leaf Tea is available in several caddy sizes, so you can choose a quantity that suits whether you are buying for everyday use or as a gift.
