About this experience
Minneriya National Park ligt in de Noord-Centrale Provincie van Sri Lanka en is een van het land's meest gevierde natuurreservaten, gebouwd rond een oud stuwmeer dat een buitengewone concentratie van wildlife aantrekt. Het park staat vooral bekend om "The Gathering", een seizoensgebeurtenis tijdens de droge maanden wanneer honderden olifanten zich verzamelen op de blootgestelde oevers van het stuwmeer om te grazen, met elkaar om te gaan en te baden — een van de grootste dergelijke bijeenkomsten van Aziatische olifanten ter wereld. Naast de olifanten ondersteunen de open graslanden en omringende bossen herten, waterbuffels en een rijke verscheidenheid aan vogelsoorten.
Een typisch bezoek duurt ongeveer drie uur en bestrijkt de oevers van het stuwmeer en de graslandcircuits van het park per 4x4 jeep. Uw chauffeur fungeert ook als uw tracker, leest het landschap en localiseert wildlife terwijl hij een respectvolle afstand tot de dieren handhaaft. Toegangskaartjes worden van tevoren geregeld, dus er is geen wachtrij bij de ingang op de dag zelf.
De minimumleeftijd voor deelname is vijf jaar. Voor degenen die binnen 5 km van de parkpoort verblijven, zijn ophaal- en afzetservice inbegrepen als onderdeel van de boeking.

A great place to see elephants in the wild
A really good afternoon trip. We saw plenty of elephants and you could get soo close to them. Our driver was really good and flung some great spots. However, it did get congested at times with los of other jeeps doing t…

Horrible, trafic jams, exhaust fumes, vehicles not adapted, elephants harassed
Horrible! We were in jeeps so couldn’t see if we were sat - behind driver. If we stood the road was so rough we were thrown around and ended up black and blue. Too old for that in our 70’s!
Far too many jeeps allowed in.…
