About this experience
Minneriya National Park ligger i Sri Lankas nordcentrale provins og er en af landets mest berømte dyrelivs reservater, bygget omkring et oldtidigt reservoir, der tiltrækker en ekstraordinær koncentration af dyreliv. Parken er bedst kendt for «The Gathering», en sæsonbetonet begivenhed i løbet af tørmånederne, når hundredvis af elefanter samles ved reservoirets blottede kystlinie for at græsse, være sammen og bade — en af de største sådan koncentrationer af asiatiske elefanter noget sted i verden. Ud over elefanterne støtter de åbne græsarealer og den omgivende skov hjorte, vandbuffaloer og et rigt udvalg af fugleliv.
Et typisk besøg varer omkring tre timer og dækker reservoirkystlinien og parkens græslandskredsløb med 4x4 jeep. Din chauffør fungerer også som din tracker og læser landskabet og lokaliserer dyreliv, mens han holder respektfuld afstand fra dyrene. Indgangsbilletter arrangeres på forhånd, så der er ingen kø ved porten på dagen.
Minimumalderen for deltagelse er fem år. For dem, der bor inden for 5 km fra parkporten, er afhentning og aflevering inkluderet som en del af bookingen.

A great place to see elephants in the wild
A really good afternoon trip. We saw plenty of elephants and you could get soo close to them. Our driver was really good and flung some great spots. However, it did get congested at times with los of other jeeps doing t…

Horrible, trafic jams, exhaust fumes, vehicles not adapted, elephants harassed
Horrible! We were in jeeps so couldn’t see if we were sat - behind driver. If we stood the road was so rough we were thrown around and ended up black and blue. Too old for that in our 70’s!
Far too many jeeps allowed in.…
