Classic is the everyday black tea of Bogawantalawa, a Sri Lankan tea company named after the Bogawantalawa valley, the high tea country that Scottish planters opened in 1869.
The pouch calls it a high-grown special blend: loose black tea meant for the daily pot, smooth rather than sharp. This 100g pack is the small size, handy for trying the blend or for a desk drawer. The kraft-coloured stand-up pouch shows a cup of tea over green tea fields, and the maker describes its teas as climate positive.
In the pack
- 100g loose black tea
- High-grown Ceylon blend from the Classic range
- Kraft-coloured stand-up pouch
In the cup
A smooth, medium-bodied black tea with a clear amber colour. It takes milk and sugar well and is just as easy plain.
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) per cup and freshly boiled water. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes and strain. For milk tea, go to the full 5 minutes.
Serving ideas
Make it the Sri Lankan way with hot milk and sugar, or serve plain with a slice of lemon.
Bogawantalawa is a Sri Lankan brand of pure Ceylon tea from Bogawantalawa Tea Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd of Ragama, named after the tea valley in the central hills where its estates lie.
