Black Elephant OP is a whole-leaf Ceylon black tea from the Ceylon Elephant range by Battler, packed in a black metal tin caddy decorated with a ceremonial elephant. It is sold in two sizes; pick one above.
The grade is Orange Pekoe (OP): long, twisted leaves, marked Big Leaf on the tin. The maker describes it as a low-grown tea with a balanced, amber-coloured cup and a smooth finish, and seals the leaf in foil inside the tin.
In the pack
- 100 g tin caddy of loose leaf tea, or
- 200 g tin caddy of loose leaf tea.
- Leaf foil-sealed inside the tin; ingredient: Ceylon black tea, OP grade.
- Keep the tea closed, cool and dry, away from strong smells. The maker gives a shelf life of three years.
Tasting notes
An amber liquor with medium-full body, a mild malt note from the low-grown leaf and a smooth, clean finish.
How to brew
- Use one teaspoon of leaf (about 2.5 g) per cup.
- Pour on freshly boiled water.
- Steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain.
Serving ideas
A good tea for a pot with milk at breakfast or black in the afternoon. The decorated tin makes a useful gift and can be refilled once empty.
