A collection of stories for young children in Sinhala, put together by Jayampathi Rajakaruna and published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co. The stories are drawn from folk tales of the wider world, retold for small readers, and the aim behind them is plainly stated by the publisher: the advice children need for life settles more easily when it arrives inside a good story. This is the first of two volumes.
The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation, so buyers outside Sri Lanka should order it as a Sinhala-language book — it suits households raising children in the language, Sinhala classes abroad, and families who want story material from home to read aloud.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publishing house, and its children's titles are a familiar sight on Sri Lankan bookshelves.
