The Dhammapada is the best-known and most widely translated book of the Pali canon, and this is a Sinhala rendering of it by Charles Widanapathirana, published in Colombo by Godage. It gathers the Buddha's teaching in short, memorable verses on ethical and spiritual conduct.
The text belongs to the Khuddaka Nikāya, the section of the Sutta Piṭaka that collects many of the shorter and more personal teachings of the early Buddhist tradition. The verses are sayings attributed to the Buddha, and the title is usually understood as "verses (or path) of the dhamma" — dhamma here meaning the Buddha's teaching.
This edition is in Sinhala, not English, and presents those verses to Sinhala-speaking readers. It is a Godage edition suited both to study of the core ethical teaching of Theravāda Buddhism and to regular devotional reading.
