When Leslie Burke moves to the farm next door, she upends Jess Aarons' ambitions to be the fastest runner in his class. Despite her superior speed, Leslie proves clever, funny, and genuinely likeable—so much so that Jess begins to see past his initial disappointment. Together they discover Terabithia, a secret island kingdom across the creek accessible only by rope-swing, where Jess finds refuge from his troubled home life. In this imagined realm, Jess and Leslie rule as king and queen, sharing an extraordinary friendship that transforms them both.
