Kumari Ella Falls

Kumari Ella Falls is a picturesque waterfall located near Avissawella in Sri Lanka’s Western Province. Though modest in height, the falls are known for their strong water flow and serene natural surroundings.

The site is named after a local legend involving a young woman named Kumari, believed to have drowned in the pool beneath the falls. This story adds a layer of cultural mystique to the area, which is popular among local visitors for its scenic charm and folklore.

The waterfall features natural rock pools and a shallow bathing area above the main plunge. However, the lower pool is deep and has strong currents, making it unsuitable for swimming. Visitors are advised to exercise caution when exploring the site.

Accessible via a short hike from the nearby road, Kumari Ella is best visited during the dry season for safer access and clearer water. Its combination of beauty, tranquility, and cultural significance makes it a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and day-trippers.
