George Steuart Earl Grey Tea is a Ceylon black tea scented with bergamot and lemon, packed as 25 tea bags in a 50g box. It is the familiar Earl Grey cup, bright and fragrant, made from tea grown and blended in Sri Lanka by one of the island's oldest names in the trade.
The tea inside each bag is BOPF, Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings, a fine grade of Ceylon black tea that infuses quickly and gives a full, deep-coloured liquor. The Earl Grey flavouring of bergamot and lemon sits over that base, so the citrus lifts the aroma without hiding the malty character of the tea underneath. The ingredients are simply black tea and Earl Grey flavour.
Steuarts Tea is the tea house of George Steuart, a Colombo firm established in 1835 and today the oldest mercantile establishment in Sri Lanka. The box carries the house line, The Original Ceylon Tea People, and the company has been part of the island's tea trade since the days when Ceylon first rose to prominence as a tea producer.
Each of the 25 tea bags is individually wrapped in a paper envelope, which keeps the bergamot aroma sealed in until the bag is opened and makes them easy to carry to the office or pack for travel. Brew one bag in freshly boiled water, served plain, with a slice of lemon, or with milk if you prefer. It is also good poured over ice for a citrusy iced tea.
