When does the session start, and does the time of day matter?
The tour begins at 8:00 am from the Diving Center in Hikkaduwa. Other start times can be arranged, but underwater visibility decreases as the day progresses and marine life tends to retreat from view when the sun is higher.
What time of year is best for snorkelling at Hikkaduwa?
The southwest coast is calmest and has the clearest water from November through April, making this the most reliable season for the experience.
Is the experience suitable for beginners?
The reef sits in shallow water and all equipment is provided. The experience is not suitable for those with back problems, expectant mothers, or anyone with serious medical conditions.
What might I see on the reef?
The reef supports a wide range of coral growth forms alongside schools of reef fish, clownfish, sea anemones, hermit crabs, and the possibility of sea turtle sightings. Specific encounters cannot be guaranteed on any given visit.
