Earl Grey Gold from Akbar is a leaf black tea flavoured with bergamot. The base is high-grown orthodox Ceylon black tea, and the flavour comes from natural bergamot oil, pressed from the peel of the citrus fruit that gives every Earl Grey its perfumed lift.
In the cup it brews a bright amber liquor with a malty body under the citrus and a light floral note. Because it is loose leaf, it suits a teapot or an infuser; the leaf has room to open and the flavour comes through cleanly.
Drink it plain, with a dash of milk, or with a thin slice of lemon. It works as a morning cup and as a classic afternoon tea.
