About this experience
Depart from your Dambulla hotel and head north to Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka's oldest and most revered ancient capitals. Your private, air-conditioned vehicle brings you to Sri Maha Bodhi — the sacred fig tree grown from a cutting of the very tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment — then on to Thuparamaya, the island's first stupa. An English-speaking driver is with you throughout the 10-hour day, and two 500 ml water bottles per person are provided to keep you going.
The day also takes you to Mihintale, the mountain peak where Buddhism is said to have first taken root in Sri Lanka. Entrance tickets to Anuradhapura (USD 30 per person) are not included, nor are meals, a local guide, or personal expenses. This is a private tour — your schedule, your pace — with hotel pickup and drop-off included.
