This OPA is from the Elephas Maximus range by Battler, named after the Asian elephant. It is a loose leaf Ceylon black tea in a 100 g tin caddy embossed with an elephant's face.
OPA (Orange Pekoe A) is a grade for long, bold leaves rolled lengthwise. Here the long, wiry leaf gives a smooth, mellow cup with a delicate aroma and a light amber colour. The Elephas Maximus range also covers FBOP1, BOP, OP and Super Pekoe.
In the pack
- 100 g of loose leaf Ceylon black tea, OPA grade
- Tin caddy with an embossed elephant face
- Shelf life of three years from packing, per the maker
Tasting notes
- Leaf: long and wiry
- Liquor: light amber
- Taste: smooth and mellow, with a delicate aroma
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup and freshly boiled water. Steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain. Long leaf grades open slowly, so the full 5 minutes suits this tea.
Serving ideas
Best plain or with a little sugar, so the delicate aroma comes through. The tin makes a good gift or keepsake.
