About this experience
Board the train at Kandy — Sri Lanka's cultural capital — and settle in for one of the world's great rail journeys. Over the next several hours, the landscape shifts from lowland plains to misty tea-country highlands as the train winds through tunnels, over viaducts, and past villages clinging to emerald hillsides. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide travels with you, pointing out landmarks along the way, while hotel pick-up and drop-off keep the day entirely hassle-free.
The line ends at Ella, a compact hill-country town worth exploring on foot. Stroll the main street, take in the cool mountain air, and soak up the scenery before your air-conditioned vehicle returns you to your hotel. The full day runs to around 13 hours.
