Board your air-conditioned vehicle in Mirissa and head north on this private, 10-hour day tour with an English-speaking chauffeur guide. First stop is Lunuganga, the celebrated country estate of architect Sir Geoffrey Bawa — wander the terraced gardens and reflect pools that shaped a generation of tropical design. From there, you travel to Meetiyagoda to step inside a working moonstone mine and see how Sri Lanka's signature gemstone is extracted from the earth.
The final leg brings you to Balapitiya, where you board a boat for a safari along the Madu River — spot mangroves, bird life, and temple islands from the water. A water bottle is provided per person throughout the day. Hotel pickup and drop-off from Mirissa are included; entrance tickets to Lunuganga Estate and meals are not. Minimum age is five years.
