Paththirippuwa

Paththirippuwa, the iconic Octagonal Pavilion of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy, stands as one of the most recognizable architectural elements of the temple complex. Built during the reign of King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in the early 19th century, the structure was originally designed as a royal audience hall, where the king addressed his subjects and observed ceremonies held in the temple square below.

Today, the upper floor houses important historical manuscripts belonging to the Dalada Maligawa, including ola leaf records of Buddhist teachings and royal decrees.
