Sigiriya Jungles is a Sri Lankan-style resort in Audangawa village, Kibissa, on the route to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress in the heart of the Cultural Triangle. It is set in 10 acres of naturally landscaped grounds, about 1.8 km from Pidurangala and 9.4 km from Habarana, with Minneriya National Park 12.1 km away.
The resort is about 148 km by road from Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake, a drive that usually takes 3 to 3.5 hours depending on traffic and the weather. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Sigiriya Jungles.
Sixty rooms, arranged in clusters for space and privacy, overlook the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Each has a king-sized bed, a sitting area with table and sofa, a large furnished balcony or terrace, individually controlled air-conditioning, a 32-inch television with cable channels and a DVD player, an electronic safe, a minibar, a tea and coffee maker and key-card entry. Bathrooms have a spacious shower area with an overhead rain shower, a hair dryer and magnifying mirror and bath amenities; Deluxe rooms and suites add a bath tub, and every suite has its own private swimming pool with a jacuzzi.
The main building holds the reception, a large living lounge, shops and a library. On the elevated upper floor, a bar looks out over the green village and the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and leads onto a large wooden bridge that doubles as a lounge. There is a very large swimming pool, and a conference and banquet hall that takes meetings of 10 to 150 people.
A ground-floor show-cooking restaurant seats up to 150 guests, and a garden restaurant serves speciality dining.
The Sigiriya Rock Fortress, King Kasyapa's 5th-century citadel on a 200 m granite rock, famous for its frescoes of celestial maidens and best climbed first thing in the morning or just before sunset, is close by. The Dambulla Rock Cave Temple and the medieval ancient city of Polonnaruwa make good day excursions, and Trincomalee, with Fort Frederick and the Koneswaram Temple inside it, is about two hours' drive away.
