Hotel Sigiriya is a garden hotel run by Browns Hotels near Sigiriya Rock, about ten minutes from the fortress, with the rock in view above its pool and lawns. Its 78 rooms are set in low buildings among big shade trees, which makes it a quiet, practical base for an early climb of the rock and for the elephant parks and ancient sites of the Cultural Triangle.
All rooms have air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and satellite TV. The hotel has 65 Superior rooms, 12 Premium rooms and one Junior Suite; the three categories below are the ones you can book with us, and the names are the ones you will see in the booking form.
Most couples and families will be happy in a Superior room; choose the Junior Suite for more space and the jacuzzi.
The open-air main restaurant serves Sri Lankan and international dishes, and the open-air main bar pours cocktails, mocktails and spirits through the afternoon and evening. The hotel also offers special dining: a jungle barbecue beside the pool, meals in a tree-top setting and dinners at the Tamarind Tree restaurant, as well as in-room dining.
The freshwater pool sits on the lawn with the rock in view, and the Ayuwása Wellness Centre offers body treatments, foot care and beauty treatments. There is also a gym and an eco centre, and the hotel's resident naturalist guides excursions in the surrounding countryside.
Sigiriya Rock Fortress, with its frescoes, lion's paw terrace and summit palace, is about ten minutes away, and the Sigiriya Museum beside the entrance explains the site. Pidurangala Rock, the best place to look back at Sigiriya, is around fifteen minutes away, and the Dambulla Cave Temple is also within easy reach. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa makes a good day trip.
Yes. Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks are each a short drive away, and in the dry months herds gather around the reservoirs in what is known as the Gathering. Jeep safaris can be arranged through the hotel.
The hotel is about 146 kilometres from Bandaranaike International Airport, a drive inland to the Cultural Triangle. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Hotel Sigiriya, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits families, couples and groups who want a relaxed, well-located hotel with a pool and gardens close to the rock, rather than a remote luxury lodge. Two nights gives you time for Sigiriya, Pidurangala and an elephant safari. For more choice see our places to stay in Sigiriya.
