Jetwing Saman Villas is a 27-suite boutique resort for couples on a rocky headland at Aturuwella, just south of Bentota, with an infinity pool on the rock. Long beaches run away on either side, and Jetwing calls it Sri Lanka's first boutique hotel; every suite is built for two adults and looks out over the Indian Ocean.
All 27 suites face the sea and share the same style: timber interiors, Italian leather furniture in the living area, a king-size bed, a dressing room, a home-theatre system and a bathroom with a marble bathtub, twin basins and both an indoor and a semi-outdoor rain shower. Each has a verandah or balcony with a day bed, a dining table and a plantation chair. The names below are the ones you will see when you choose a room.
Every suite is for two adults, and children are not accommodated on bookings with us, which keeps the resort quiet. The pool suites are the most private choice for a honeymoon.
The main restaurant is open around the clock above the Indian Ocean, with hand-carved timber screens and lighting by the Spanish designer Arturo Alvarez. You can eat at the tables inside, on ocean-facing sofas, or out on the terrace above the infinity pool, and The Verandah is the more casual corner. There is a bar by the pool, 24-hour room service, and a choice of private signature dinners arranged by the resort.
The infinity pool sits on the rocky headland looking straight out to sea, and the spa offers Ayurvedic and other treatments. There is a gym, a library and a snooker table. The headland gives access to two long stretches of beach, good for walks and, in season, a swim in the sea. Wi-Fi is free, and laundry and a doctor on call are available.
Induruwa Beach runs south from the headland, and Bentota Beach and the Bentota River, with its water sports, are about 3 kilometres to the north. The Kosgoda turtle hatchery is about 7 kilometres south in a straight line. Jetwing arranges a two-hour Madu River boat safari from Balapitiya, about 15 kilometres away, through mangrove tunnels to Cinnamon Island. Inland, Bevis Bawa's Brief Garden and his brother Geoffrey's estate at Lunuganga are both on the Bawa trail, and Galle Fort is an easy day trip down the coast.
Yes. Induruwa station on the Coast Line is about 1 kilometre away in a straight line, and Bentota station about 3 kilometres. Arrange a pick-up from the station with the resort or with us.
Jetwing puts the resort about two hours from Colombo by road. From Bandaranaike International Airport, north of the city, it is about 88 kilometres in a straight line; allow extra time for traffic around Colombo. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Jetwing Saman Villas, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits couples who want a small, quiet and very private beach resort, with space to spread out in their own suite and a pool of their own if they choose. It is not for families with children. For more choice on this stretch of coast see our places to stay in Bentota, or the other Jetwing hotels around the island.
