About this experience
Set off from the Diving Centre in Bentota at 7:30 am, the recommended start since visibility is best while the sun is low and sea life stays out in the open rather than retreating into shady crevices. A boat ride of up to 20 minutes carries you to the best snorkelling spot offshore, where you drop into shallow water over living coral. Watch for large silver-blue shoals of small fish, hermit crabs peering out for prey, flowery anemones and clownfish weaving between the coral strands. Snorkelling equipment and the boat ride are included; bring an underwater camera if you have one.
This is a private two-hour outing, so there's no group to coordinate with and you move at your own pace. Minimum age is 12. Other departure times can be arranged, though the early slot gives the clearest water. Gratuities and any entrance ticket are not included.
