This is a Sinhala retelling of Puss in Boots, the familiar tale of the cat whose wits do rather more for his master than any inheritance could. It belongs to a series of fairy tale books made for young children in Sri Lanka, and the story is told in simple Sinhala rather than in literary or formal language.
The text is by Priyangwada Perera and the book is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. of Colombo, which publishes in Sinhala and English. The pages are printed on glossy paper and carry colour illustrations throughout.
International buyers should note that the book is entirely in Sinhala — there is no English text alongside. That makes it suited to households raising children in Sinhala abroad, to Sinhala language classes for young learners, and to anyone building a small shelf of children's books in the language. A child who already knows the story in English may find a familiar shape here to follow while reading in Sinhala.
