The tour includes a naturalist guide and support staff, all entrance and guide fees, a lunch or snack, leech socks, a rain coat, and binoculars. Transport to the trailhead is not included.
How do I get to the starting point?
Guests can meet the guide at the Deniyaya Entrance to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve. If you prefer, a pick-up from the Mederipitiya Bridge can be arranged in advance, though this is subject to an additional fee.
Is this tour suitable for families with children or older travellers?
Yes. The half-day experience is specifically designed to be manageable for families with children and elderly travellers. The route takes at least three hours on foot and the group exits the forest before sunset.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear clothing that covers your ankles to protect against leeches — leech socks are provided, but full-length trousers help too. Bring swimwear if you wish to take a dip at the Kekuna Ella Waterfall pool. Rain can arrive at any time, and a rain coat is provided.
What kind of wildlife might I encounter?
Sinharaja is home to a remarkable range of endemic birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. The naturalist guide is experienced in locating fauna including forest birds and reptiles such as snakes — venomous species are present in the reserve and the guide will manage all encounters safely and from a distance.
